Disney on Ice is skating to Des Moines for a weekend-long showing at the Wells Fargo Arena! The production premieres on September 1st this year and will tour the rest of North America before concluding at the Raising Cane’s River Center Arena – Baton Rouge in April next year.
Debuting in the 1980s, “Disney On Ice” is a touring show produced by Feld Entertainment in collaboration with the Walt Disney Company. The plays, which are largely geared toward children, incorporate Disney characters in performances that draw inspiration for their music and stories from numerous movies and franchises. There are currently eight to eleven productions and touring groups traveling worldwide.
Earlier press releases had announced that Disney On Ice: Magic In The Stars, in particular, is extra special as it marks the return of Cars after a three-year absence and the debut of Raya and the Last Dragon with Frozen II. Additionally, it will include Daisy Duck and Jiminy Cricket after being absent for over five years.

This season, the show will feature two of the biggest animated movies in recent years: Frozen, the #1 animated feature of all time, along with Encanto, the Golden Globe, BAFTA, Academy Award winner for Best Animated Feature three years ago.
Colleen Clancy, who plays the main role of Elsa and the media mentor, shares with Broadway World all about their journey as performers. When asked to describe Magic In The Stars in three words, she answered that viewers can expect the production to be interactive, surprising, and passionate as everyone involved is dedicated and excited to bring a dazzling performance on tour.
“Disney On Ice is more than just a show you sit and watch; you can interact with the hosts and even be a part of the show during ‘Tangled’ when the thugs actually give members of the audience a ride on the ice! You can expect to see your favorite characters but there are so many surprising parts of the show that you won’t expect. Our crew does an amazing job of bringing these stories to another level with incredible special effects that you’ll only believe when you see them in person!”
The production generally follows hosts Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, and Goofy as they venture through several Disney stories, starting as the North Star descends and greets the audiences with Jiminy Cricket, reminding everyone about the possibility of wishes. As the highlights of the show, Raya and the Last Dragon will showcase an impressive aerial acrobatic routine, while Frozen II will be presented on ice.
Audiences will get to see Cars as they cruise to the hit “Life is a Highway” and reconnect with Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Rex, and Hamm from Toy Story. Towards the end, the mountains of Colombia will come alive as they introduce you to the Familia Madrigal after accompanying Moana’s Voyage across the ocean.
Other titles that will be featured in this event include the following franchises:
- Pinocchio
- Peter Pan
- Princess and the Frog
- Aladdin
- Tangled
- Cinderella
- Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
- Beauty and the Beast
Gig Siruno, Disney on Ice’s performance director, further shares what he enjoys most about being on tour. “It’s the unpredictability of live entertainment; no show is exactly the same technically and artistically. You can have two great performances in a row for completely different reasons.” He continues to explain how watching a performance unfold for an audience and how a show can invoke reactions or emotions in a person is fun. I also like visiting new places as well.
